BrandScan | Brand Mentoring app

2023 · Product design, User experience

Background

A client contacted me to talk about a new product idea that he wanted to discuss with me. The product was intended to monitor the brand by gathering user-generated content and engagement postings from social media and the internet. The customer was cost-conscious because the project was an MVP and they weren't sure about it, and the vision was not quite clear. They also didn't have any comprehensive criteria or extensive research.

Problem

Businesses struggle to track, monitor, and respond to online mentions, sentiment, and trends across various social media platforms. This challenge can significantly impact their brand reputation and customer engagement.

Research & design

Brand monitoring was quite a new domain for me, and there was not much information on it. I have been into social media games before, but not really tracking those brands across all these channels and not at a very big scale. Given the budget opting for user interviews or group surveys wasn’t feasible. I needed to explore alternative methods to gather information.

I researched businesses offering similar services and identified two notable companies. I analyzed their product offerings, examined customer reviews, and evaluated the aspects that users appreciated or disliked about their services.

Based on the analysis of over 100 reviews and competitor research, I gathered the fundamental requirements, developed user personas, and created the information architecture along with the user flows

Customizable onboarding flow allows users to retrieve the most relevant feeds for their brands and names, avoiding unrelated data by selecting specific keywords, hashtags, and filtering by language, country, and sources.
Onboarding steps

To enhance the loading experience after onboarding, we’ve added an animated screen that offers useful feedback, replacing the standard, uninformative loading circle.
Setting Up Your Workspace

The main page is the Feed, a simple layout focused on mentions and a line chart, making it easy for users to quickly scan and understand the information.

Multiple workspaces

Line chart visualizations help users quickly spot patterns and monitor changes by tracking trends in mentions, reach, sentiment, and feedback over time—daily, weekly, and monthly.

I tried to create uniformity across different platforms and sources because mentions feed posts show differently in different sources.

Different platforms have their own key elements, such as name, username, interactions, etc. The dynamic post feed helps maintain consistency across these variations.
